W&M Student Accounts and Email

All students will be given a Student ID to access W&M’s online networks (i.e., Banner, Blackboard, and Outlook). Students will be prompted to activate their user ID before the first day of class. Instructions will be emailed directly to the student’s preferred email address.

Internet Accessibility

The W&M campus is equipped with a reliable and convenient wireless network accessible in and around all academic buildings and dormitories. The eduroam (education roaming) wireless network provides secure Internet service for the academic community.

Eduroam is available in thousands of institutions across 90 countries and territories worldwide. Once eduroam is set up on your device, it will connect automatically as you move from one eduroam institution to another.

Computers and Tablets

Students will need to bring either a laptop computer or a tablet to complete assignments during the Pre-College Program. Any laptop device with wireless capabilities is acceptable, although we have found that school-issued Chrome Books do not connect well to W&M's wireless network. All operating systems are acceptable, including Windows OS, Mac OS, and Chrome OS. Tablets, such as Apple iPad or Microsoft Surface, are also acceptable computing devices.

Mobile Phone Use

NIAHD encourages you to bring a cell phone so you can stay in touch with your friends and family during the program. You can bring your phone with you on site visits, and you are welcome to use your phone while traveling to and from museums and historic sites. If your phone has a camera, you will be able to take pictures on many of your site visits. However, you should not use your phone to talk or text while you are on site or during your seminar discussion.
