About the Program

Contribute to solutions that are good for the planet and for people. Integrative conservation will introduce you to diverse cultural, intellectual and environmental perspectives. You will explore integrative approaches that balance the conservation of wildlife and ecosystems with human wellbeing and environmental justice. This approach incorporates diverse ways of knowing and learning into the conception, design and implementation of applied conservation projects.

What Makes Us Different

  • 1st in the Nation

    W&M and the IIC are offering the first undergraduate integrative conservation major in the nation. Since its launch in 2022, it has become one of the fastest growing majors at W&M.

  • Global Partners

    IIC has developed numerous partnerships around the globe in which students work on contemporary, multifaceted solutions with conservation organizations.

  • IIC Student Leadership Council

    Advises the IIC on matters related to the curriculum, research opportunities and career networking. They also host activities and events that promote integrative conservation more broadly across campus.

The Institute for Integrative Conservation (IIC) is a community of conservation learners, scholars and practitioners who foster cross-sector, transdisciplinary and multicultural conservation discussions. Studying integrative conservation prepares students for the next generation of conservation and environmental careers in private, public and non-profit sectors.
