2014 Faculty Governance Award

Citation for Janice Zeman

Professor Janice ZemanProfessor Zeman (Psychology) is well known for embracing and excelling at leadership roles in her department, within Arts & Sciences, and with the College as a whole. Shortly after arriving at William and Mary she took on roles within the Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology, first as chair of that group's Practicum Training Committee (2006-08) and then as W&M director of the program (2008-10). She has served as departmental chair since 2012 and represents the department on the Council of Chairs and Program Directors (co-chair, 2013) and has been a member of the Neurodiversity Working Group since 2011. She has also served as the department's Graduate Studies coordinator (2004-05) and on its Graduate Studies Committee (2008-10), Personnel Committee (2007-08), and Undergraduate Studies Committee (2005-07).

Beyond the Psychology Department she has served on the Arts & Sciences Committee on Graduate Studies (2008-10); and since 2013, on the Provost's strategic planning committee on Leading Liberal Arts University, as co-chair of the ad hoc committee on teaching effectiveness, and as a member of the working group on transfer students. Also notable are her contributions to the larger academic community, where she has participated in numerous university, state, and national committees that focus on meeting the needs of marginalized children, families, and college students. For her many contributions, it is fitting that Professor Zeman be recognized with the Arts & Sciences 2014 Faculty Governance Award.
