Research

Our faculty pursue an active research program in a variety of areas, including algorithms, artificial intelligence and machine learning, computational social science, computer architecture, computer systems and networking, cybersecurity, graphics, high-performance computing, modeling and simulation, programming languages and compilers, scientific computing, sensor networks, software engineering, and wearable computing.

We also offer multidisciplinary research opportunities in Computational Science and Computational Operations Research.

Some faculty and students participate in joint research activities with two nearby national research facilities: the NASA Langley Research Center (NASA LaRC) and the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab).  The College itself supports a cluster computer for computationally-intensive work.
