$50 million in grants and scholarships is distributed annually

To be considered for need-based financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to receive federal aid and the CSS Profile to receive any additional financial aid.

The Financial Aid Office provides detailed instructions on this application process. All available aid resources (grants, loans and federal work-study) are considered to meet as much student need as possible and to reduce student debt.

William & Mary has a long-standing commitment to meet 100% of the demonstrated financial need of in‑state Virginia residents.

W&M also offers a great value for out-of-state students. Other scholarships are also available.

What does it really cost?

Possibly much less than you think. Our financial aid packages are made up of grants, scholarships, work study jobs and need-based loans. The full Cost of Attendance (CoA) includes tuition, fees, housing, food, books, personal expenses and travel. It is a piece of the federal formula we use to calculate your need to process your award:
