Military Benefits and Payments

Armed Forces Tuition Assistance (TA)

Tuition Assistance is a benefit paid to eligible members of the armed services to assist them with their tuition expense. Each service branch has its own criteria for eligibility, obligated service, application processes and restrictions.  All approved TA authorizations must be submitted to the William & Mary Bursar's Office prior to the eBill statement due date.  To comply with the policy of the Department of Defense Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), William & Mary will return any unearned military TA funds on a proportional basis through at least the 60 percent portion of the period for which they were provided. Please visit the Military Tuition Assistance (TA) section of our Refunds webpage for more information.

Veteran and dependent benefits

Certification for educational benefits is a service provided by the Office of the University Registrar.  This office will assist students with the processing of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) forms for educational benefits, provide guidance about specific procedural requirements, and submit enrollment certifications for each semester to the VA. Please refer to the 'Using Veterans Benefits' webpage for detailed information on receiving your educational benefit.

Virginia Military Survivors and Dependent Education Program (VMSDEP)

The VMSDEP program provides educational assistance for up to 8 semesters with the benefit payments processed by the Bursar/Student Accounts Office.  Prior to the beginning of each semester, students must update their VMSDEP portal account for the upcoming term.  Follow these steps to complete your verification process:

  • Login to the myVMSDEP portal
  • Select Step 6 'Application Management'
  • Select the 'Manage Benefits' option (student benefits page will display)
  • Select the 'Add Term Benefit Information' option
  • Add your Term information
  • Select 'Save Term Information' option

ATTENTION: Tier 2 students who wish to ensure they are eligible for a stipend during 2024 Summer Sessions MUST sign up to use their benefit on the VMSDEP portal prior to May 6th.

William & Mary does not apply waivers retroactively.  Eligible waivers are applied to current and/or future terms only.   Please visit our information page for additional information about the VMSDEP program.
