Parking Permits

The new 23-24 decals are now available for purchase. Please go online to update your Parking Account using the T2 Cloud based system. The system allows eligible customers to purchase decals online, manage vehicle and address information, file appeals, or pay citations. 22-23 decals remain in effect until Aug 31st. 23-24 decals are not valid for use until Aug 21st forward.

Parking Eligibility

William & Mary students who have completed 4 regular semesters, and have achieved social class status of Junior or Senior, as well as William & Mary faculty and staff members, commuting students, and campus contractors are eligible to purchase a William & Mary parking permit.

Parking Enforcement

Parking enforcement rules are in effect 24 hours a day beginning Monday at 7:00 AM through Friday at 5:00 PM, Decals or passes are required to park on campus. Once purchased you must park according to your decal in properly marked spaces.

Students

William & Mary students who commute to campus and students who have achieved social class status of Junior or Senior who live in university administered housing (including the Ludwell apartments & Richmond Hall) are eligible to purchase a William & Mary parking permit. Graduate students who live in the Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans Graduate Complex (referred to here as Grad Plex) qualify for the Grad Plex decal. Commuter and Resident permits are valid in other permit type designations after 5:00pm, but must be in proper designations by 7:00am the next weekday morning. Parking is free on Saturdays and Sundays. Permits or passes are required at all times Monday through Friday.

Purchase your permit online. Have your vehicle registration and proof of insurance prepared as a small .jpg or .pdf document. If your vehicle is already registered, check the vehicle descriptions are up-to-date, then simply proceed to permit purchase.

Commuters

Day

All individuals classified as students by the Registrar who do not reside in university administered housing purchase the Day Commuter permit after registering their vehicle.

COMMUTER - DAY (White Hangtag)

Students with Day Permits may park in areas marked as Day Student and Permit Only. They may also park in Faculty/Staff spaces on the weekend (Sat. & Sun.) and after 5:00pm weekdays as long as they a permit. Students must move their vehicles from Faculty/Staff spaces by 7:00 am, Monday through Friday. Exceptions to the aforementioned post-5:00pm Faculty/Staff privilege are the reserved-at-all-times Fac/Staff areas and spaces which are marked by signage.

Day students may register up to two personally owned or family vehicles to a single hangtag.

Evening

Students whose classes begin after 4:00pm, or have no need to park on campus before 4:00pm, and who do not reside in university administered housing qualify for the Evening permit. After 4:00pm, they may park in any faculty/staff, day student, and Permit Only spaces unless posted as faculty/staff at all times.

COMMUTER - EVENING (Yellow Hangtag)

Evening students who have a frequent need to park on campus before 4:00pm may purchase the Day Commuter permit, as no provision is made for the Evening designation prior to 4:00pm. Evening students who have an occasional need to park on campus before 4:00pm must obtain a Temporary Day pass, which allows parking in Day and "Permit Only" areas. Evening students may register up to two family owned vehicles under a single hangtag.

Step-by-Step Guide Order a one-day pass

Residential

RESIDENT (Yellow Decal)

Students with resident decals may park in Permit Only spaces. They may also park in Day Student and Faculty/Staff spaces on the weekend (Sat. & Sun.) and after 5:00pm weekdays as long as they have a permit. Students must move their vehicles from Faculty/Staff and Day Student spaces by 7:00 am, Monday through Friday unless otherwise noted in #9, Parking Regulations. Exceptions to the aforementioned post-5:00pm Faculty/Staff privilege are the reserved-at-all-times Fac/Staff areas and spaces which are marked by signage.

Graduate Students (Grad Plex)

Graduate students who live in the Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans Graduate Complex (referred to here as Grad Plex) qualify for the Grad Plex decal.

GRAD PLEX RESIDENTS (Gold Decal)

In addition to the rules that apply to a yellow resident decal, this decal is also valid in the Grad Plex lot and Permit Only lots, such as Kaplan Arena and the Law School overflow lot.

Freshmen & Sophomore Exceptions (Restricted Use Permit)

The Restricted Use permit is available for freshmen and sophomores who have obtained permission to have a vehicle registered on campus. After submitting a request for exception, please allow two (2) weeks from submission for the approval process. More information on the exception process can be found in this brochure: Exception to Policy Process. *Due to COVID-19, disregard instructions to come to the office; you will be contacted by our office with instructions once your exception is granted by the appropriate department.

Restricted Use (Silver Decal)

Students who have obtained this permission will receive the permit at a cost of $375.00 upon registration. Permission may be granted for employment reasons (at least 10 hours per week), for medical necessity, or for approved volunteer service (at least 10 hours per week).

Restricted Use permits are also issued to students and staff members who have had their privileges to park on campus restricted to the Kaplan Arena (formerly W&M Hall) lot (see Restricted Privileges). Persons with restricted privileges and the Restricted Use permit must park in the Kaplan Arena lot only from Monday at 7:00 a.m. until Friday at 5:00 p.m. Athletic events may effect this; be mindful of signage and announcements. No parking in metered or timed spaces at any time, unless the space is also designated as a load/unload space then the specified load/unload time limit applies.

Long-Term Storage

Resident Students who do not require frequent and regular use of their vehicle may opt to purchase a long term storage permit instead of a main campus permit at ½ the cost.

Long-Term Storage (Silver Hangtag)

This permit authorizes long-term storage at the School of Education Lot 3 Only. This permit is not authorized on the main campus at any time without purchase of an additional temporary pass. Students can access the School of Ed lot 3 by way of the WATA Route 8 - W&M (Green) Line daily or the walking path from the Campus Recreation Center. Requests for this permit are submitted using a General Exception to Policy form.

Faculty & Staff

All faculty, administrative personnel, classified, and hourly employees of the university and contract employees are eligible to register motor vehicles under faculty/staff status. William & Mary students who work part-time for W&M will have their eligibility determined according to their student status and may only purchase student permits.

Main Campus (including Law School and School of Education)

All faculty, administrative personnel, classified and hourly employees of William & Mary and contract employees are eligible to register motor vehicles and purchase a permit under faculty/staff status.

Faculty and staff may park only in Faculty & Staff areas and Permit Only areas, such as the Kaplan Arena lot or the Law School overflow lot near the cemetery on South Henry Street. Members of the faculty and staff are encouraged not to drive their vehicles point-to-point on campus. The local Williamsburg Area Transit Authority (WATA) is free with W&M ID for cross-campus travel. (Law School to Main campus or Main to School of Ed., etc.) For ADA accommodation, Transportation Services provides Main campus transport.

Exception: Faculty may park in student spaces/areas if they need to teach a class or meet with a student and no faculty/staff spaces are available. Notify Parking Services at parked@wm.edu or 757-221-4764 of the time and location as soon as possible to preclude issue of a citation. Vehicle must be relocated upon completion of class.

Faculty and staff may register up to three (3) personally or family owned vehicles against a single hangtag. Multiple hangtag permits, if requested, will be sold at the full tiered price. Second permits cannot be sold via payroll deductions. With the purchase of a hangtag, an additional motorcycle or convertible decal may be purchased at a discounted rate only.

Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS)

Parking on the VIMS campus is Permit Only, like Kaplan Arena Lot. There are no separated designations for employees or students. Faculty, staff, and students who purchase VIMS only permits may park on the Williamsburg campus at the Kaplan Arena lot and the Law School overflow lot near the cemetery on South Henry Street. A temporary pass is required to park in other parking lots on campus.

Emeriti

Emeritus Faculty may be issued a Faculty/Staff permit with appropriate documentation of status (typically already requested by parking from Provost's office).

Emeriti permits are bought online at https://wm.t2hosted.com. Login with your W&M ID and password to complete the purchase. Daily Passes

Faculty, staff and students who do not wish to purchase a permit for year round use may order a daily temp pass equivalent. The cost of a daily pass is $6 and evening pass is $3 for all classifications.

Temp faculty and staff - may purchase passes on a weekly or monthly basis at the approved tiered rate.

Freshman and Sophomores - those who do not qualify for a permit may, under extenuating circumstances, purchase temporary passes for short term periods not to exceed 14 days. Student should have license plate info, as it will be required at time of purchase. Contact Mr. Radcliffe to order.

All students - may purchase a temp pass following the Thanksgiving holiday until Winter break at the prevailing daily rate ($6/day). Guests may use the Pay-by-App.

Motorcycle or Moped Permit

The motorcycle permit entitles the registered vehicle to park on campus. Motorcycles, mopeds, and motor scooter meeting the state engine size requirements >49CC, seat high requirements >24" or capable of speeds in excess of 35 MPH, are allowed to park ONLY in pre-defined and approved motorcycle parking spaces. Motorcycles parked in any location other than the pre-defined and approved parking areas are subject to citation. The cost of the permit will be ½ of the base rate. For safety reasons, unless otherwise noted, these vehicles are not permitted to park on sidewalks, under building overhangs, inside courtyards, or in buildings, at any time.
