Full Description
A Home Without Hazing - Required Trainings for PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS
5 sessions of the PROSPECTIVE MEMBER training will be offered during new student orientation in Fall 2025 and an additional 12 sessions will be offered during the month of September (for 17 sessions total in Fall 2025). Check out the Hazing Prevention at W&M TribeLink page for dates.
A Home Without Hazing training will be offered at W&M in order to support on-going hazing prevention efforts and compliance with Adam's Law. In-person participation in A Home Without Hazing training is required for all prospective members of student organizations with new members who meet the following definition: “any organization for which upon invitation to membership, individuals do not automatically become members of such organization and have a period of time between invitation for membership and being initiated into membership.”
Prospective Member Training is required ONLY ONCE during your W&M tenure. If you have completed the PROSPECTIVE MEMBER training previously, you are considered compliant with the requirement.
A list of organizations for which prospective members must complete training PRIOR to joining (through a prospective member training) can be found at here.
Training dates and registration information can be found at the Hazing Prevention at W&M TribeLink page. If you want to join a fraternity, sorority, professional fraternity/sorority, or any other organization designated in this list, be sure to sign up and attend. Compliance is REQUIRED in order to be eligible to join. If you want to double check your compliance status, please use contact info below.
Home Without Hazing Training was established at W&M in 2022, aligned with the Virginia Anti-Hazing Law (also known as Adam’s Law). This law requires colleges and universities to provide hazing prevention training to student organizations (and their advisors). The law was named after Adam Oakes, a Virginia Commonwealth University freshman who died from alcohol poisoning after a fraternity initiation in 2021. The law also requires colleges to post student organization violations on their websites and to provide immunity to bystanders who report drug or alcohol violations.
