Summary

Home Without Hazing Training Requirements for CURRENT Members for Academic Year 24-25

Full Description

Home Without Hazing training for CURRENT MEMBERS is here!

In-person participation in A Home Without Hazing training will be required for all CURRENT MEMBERS of the 45+ specified groups. (See specified list of groups who must complete the training). If you are a member of any student organization(s) on this list, then you must complete a Home Without Hazing training session for CURRENT MEMBERS. (If you are in multiple specified organizations, the training must only be completed once per academic year by the individual student.)

TLDR: if you’re a member of an organization on this list, you’ve got to complete a training as a current member. Current Member Training sessions will take place between November 2024 and April 2025 and will be organized directly with your organization leadership. You DO have to complete current member training ANNUALLY if your organization is a specified group.

Some general/non group specific training sessions will be offered and those dates and locations can be found on the Hazing Prevention TribeLink page.

  • If you are a NEW member of your organization and you attended a prospective member training in August/September 2024 OR January/February 2025, your training requirements for this academic year are complete. (you are are NOT required to complete a current member training this academic year).

We believe that no one should ever be demeaned or exposed to harm in their efforts to be part of campus life. In-person participation in A Home Without Hazing Training consists of three separate required trainings (prospective members, current members, and advisors).

Home Without Hazing Training was established at W&M in 2022, aligned with the Virginia Anti-Hazing Law (also known as Adam’s Law). This law requires colleges and universities to provide hazing prevention training to student organizations (and their advisors).  The law was named after Adam Oakes, a Virginia Commonwealth University freshman who died from alcohol poisoning after a fraternity initiation in 2021. The law also requires colleges to post student organization violations on their websites and to provide immunity to bystanders who report drug or alcohol violations.
