Lillian Hope Baines

Lillian Baines of Newport News enrolled on September 19, 1918. Because of her place in the alphabet, Baines was the first woman to matriculate at William & Mary. She did not graduate.

Her death certificate indicates that she had worked as a government clerk.

She died in 1981 and is buried in Newport News.
