Watch Out for Microsoft Safe Links
And Cascade system links, too.
When copying links from emails into your Cascade web pages, be sure to remove Microsoft Safe Links formatting first. These links often start with something like "https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/..." and are used by Microsoft to scan for malicious content in emails.
They are helpful in Outlook but not on the web. The long URLs can be confusing, break unexpectedly or cause trust issues for visitors. Instead, always click the link first, then use the clean URL from your browser’s address bar. Tools like this one can also decode Microsoft’s Safe Links URLs, revealing the original link hidden within the rewritten URL.
Before pasting it into Cascade, consider whether it should be added as an internal link. If not, copy and paste it into Cascade as an external link.
Cascade System Links
Similarly, watch out for links that begin with "https://cascade.wm.edu/...". You may accidentally copy and paste one onto your page, but these are the links to our internal content management system and are not for use on your public website. You'll need to update the link by selecting the internal link source.
