How to Update Headings 5 & 6 On Your Pages

Recent Heading Enhancements

For the majority of Cascade's page types in www.wm.edu and the school websites, we offer two hierarchical heading levels for your content in the WYSIWYG editor. Until March 2025, the primary heading was Heading 5, and the secondary was Heading 6. Now, those options are Heading 2 and Heading 3. The new headings look exactly the same as the previous headings, but they improve accessibility and your performance in search results.

Your existing headings are automatically converted to the new heading numbers on your live pages, however, we cannot automatically update your saved headings in Cascade. We recommend you update older headings to the new options as you make your next planned page edits. This is not required, but it will help avoid any confusion for future editors — and it's easy.

How to Make the Update

To update a heading in the WYSIWYG editor, select the heading, then select the appropriate new heading level — Heading 2 or Heading 3.
