Information Technology (IT) Purchases

William & Mary purchases of technology must be approved by IT prior to the transaction taking place.  You can learn more about IT purchasing by visiting the Procuring Technology at W&M web page or you can submit an IT Procurement Request through the Request IT application by selecting the Service Request option.

Third-Party Web Hosting

Websites that primarily represent a William & Mary department, center, program, or student organization should generally be hosted on university-provided platforms. More information can be found at Web Services

Third-party hosting should be limited to approved collaborative projects or specialized technical needs with a documented business justification and a plan to ensure continued institutional ownership.

Examples of third-party hosting websites include:

• Squarespace
• WIX
• Vercel
• Webflow
• Elementor (depending on use)
• Unbounce (depending on use)
• CivicPlus (depending on use)

When university funds are used to purchase web hosting services, all related content, domain names, configurations, and digital assets are considered university property and must remain under university control, regardless of personnel changes. University funds may not be used to purchase web hosting services for individual faculty websites, and such expenses are not eligible for reimbursement.
