Update on Mask Use in Residence Hall Common Areas
Dear William & Mary Residential Students,
We are looking forward with anticipation to your arrival to campus this week and next. Recently, we announced that on all William & Mary properties, masks are expected to be worn over the nose and mouth in all shared spaces, except for private offices and in residence halls, through the end of September.
Today we need to share that mask guidance for residence halls has changed -- Masks WILL be required within the common spaces of residence halls, including corridors, lounges and kitchen areas. You will not be required to wear masks in your rooms or bathrooms, but you are expected to wear them in spaces where students gather within the buildings.
This clarification both better works to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 within residence halls and also makes the temporary masking policy more consistent across all William & Mary properties.
It remains our hope that, as we return to residential life on campus, with low rates of COVID-19 infection and high rates of vaccination, W&M will be able to adopt more lenient widespread mask guidelines.
