IBC Required Training

The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) training is required by all personnel involved in research with biohazards before the commencement of research.

Required Training for Research with Biohazardous Materials

  • Researchers (student, staff, faculty)
    • Training for Investigators, Staff and Students Handling Biohazards - IBC
    • Any of the following courses (if applicable)
      • Animal Biosafety - IBC
      • Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules
      • Human Gene Transfer Trials
      • OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens - IBC
      • Select Agents, Biosecurity and Bioterrorism - IBC/Safety
      • Shipping and Transport of Regulated Biological Materials - IBC/Safety
      • USDA Permits
      • Nanotechnology
  • IBC Committee Member
    • Institutional Biosafety Committee Member Course - IBC
  • IBC Chair
    • IBC Chairs

Registering for CITI IBC Courses

  1. Log into CITI or create an account
  2. Take the enrollment questionnaire using the “Enrollment Questionnaire” responses below.
  3. Select “IBC/Biosafety”
  4. Select all the choices that apply to your role.
    • IBC Chair
    • IBC Committee Member
      • Includes all members of IBC - chairs, non-affiliated members, etc.
    • IBC Investigator
      • Includes ALL IBC Investigators, staff, and students
    • IBC Officer or Environmental Health and Safety Professional
      • Course is only for the EH&S Director or professional serving on the IBC board
  5. Select all the courses that apply to your research.
    • Animal Biosafety
    • Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules
    • Human Gene Transfer Trials
    • OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens
    • Select Agents, Biosecurity and Bioterrorism
    • Shipping and Transport of Regulated Biological Materials
    • USDA Permits
    • Nanotechnology 
  6. After answering the questionnaire, the courses will be added to your account.
