Presidents Council

Providing leadership development & funding support

Multicultural Student Organizations are responsible for many of the cultural and heritage programs and events held on campus each year. Through partnership and collaboration with our office, these students leaders host social events, lectures, special events, cultural events, and conferences. With more than 50 recognized multicultural student organizations at William & Mary, the Student Center for Inclusive Excellence provides leadership development and financial support through the Presidents Council.

  • We offer a monthly, collaborative space for leaders of underrepresented communities and an annual spring retreat focused on fostering the growth of their executive leadership team.
  • Our goal is to enhance personal development, promote dialogue around diverse experiences, and equip students to become socially conscious leaders.

The post event report should recap the event's purpose or goals, activities, and impact on their organization's membership and the general William & Mary community. The report will also need to include photos from the event. If an organization does not provide a post event report, they may not be eligible to receive additional funding for future events.

Funding Requests

Multicultural Organization students leaders may request funding for activities they sponsor from the Student Center for Inclusive Excellence.

  • Funding is open to Recognized W&M Student Organizations (RSO) affiliated with the Student Center for Inclusive Excellence. Attendance at scheduled monthly meetings (at least 4) and the annual spring retreat are required for continued funding eligibility.
  • If more than one organization is co-sponsoring an activity or event, only one funding request form should be submitted for that event.
  • Only events or activities open to all W&M students will be considered.
  • Events, programs, and activities must align with the mission and purpose of the Student Center for Inclusive Excellence to be considered for funding.
  • Funding requests are evaluated on a month-to-month basis and should be submitted on or before the Funding Request Deadline listed in the chart below. Decisions on funding requests will be emailed on the dates also listed in the chart below.
  • When requested, organizations requesting funding will need to meet with a staff member to discuss their request, details, and budget (including outside funding) for the event, program, or activity.
  • In accordance to the Organization Budget Allocation Process, fundraising activities may be funded, only if the purpose of the fundraiser is to support continuing organization operations or future campus/organization programming; the funding of fundraisers where the proceeds will be donated to external charitable organizations are prohibited.
  • Following the event, organizations must complete the Post-Event Report form to recap the event. Organizations who do not complete the event form will not be able to request funding from our office.
