Vanguard Cording Ceremony

The Vanguard Cording Ceremony is William & Mary’s pre-commencement celebration honoring the achievements of first-generation and limited-income (FGLI) graduating students. Started in 2023 as a Senior Recognition and End of Year Celebration, this ceremony provides a dedicated space to recognize their resilience, accomplishments, and contributions to the campus community. The Vanguard Cording Ceremony celebrates the journeys of FGLI students, acknowledging the barriers they have overcome and the legacy they leave behind as they step into their next chapter. All graduating students will receive a FGLI gold and silver cord, to wear during commencement, celebrating their resilience and the unique experiences they bring to the William & Mary community.
