Buying a Computer with College Funds

Note for ETF Fund users: Users who have 1) completed the ETF request process and 2) who have been approved to spend ETF (Equipment Trust Funds), should request a quote through the RequestIT (support.wm.edu) ticketing system.  After obtaining a quote, the purchase can be made through Procurement Services via buyW&M by the requestor.  Information Technology is no longer able to accept "bill backs" for ETF purchases. 

Dell

Special pricing is available for William & Mary faculty and staff who wish to use institutional dollars or grant funds to purchase computers from Dell. 

Standard models (Standard Models are our standard lease models), can be purchased through Request IT. 

If a department is interested in purchasing a non-standard model, please proceed to Request IT and fill out the Technology Procurement Review form.  An IT Technician will contact you and work to design a system that meets all of your needs.  

Apple

William & Mary has partnered with CDW-G as the preferred reseller for Apple products. Apple computers, iPads, and related accessories can now be purchased through the CDW-G punchout available on the buyW&M landing page. 

Using CDW-G is strongly recommended because it helps avoid the shipping and delivery delays that have recently affected direct Apple purchases. In addition, most Apple configurations available through CDW-G include an additional 2% discount.

Please login to buy.wm.edu and create your shopping cart, then proceed to check out. 

• IT Approval remains required for all IT purchases. The IT approval for Apple products takes place during the BUYWM approval process and does not require separate approval.
• AppleCare is required for all Apple computer purchases and can be added through the CDW-G punchout (three years for laptops and four years for desktops). 
• Airpods & Powerbeats, or headphones that enter the ear canal are not allowed.
• Only Apple and CDW-G are authorized for Apple purchases at W&M.
• If the Apple product or configuration you need is not available through CDW-G, you may still purchase it through the Apple punchout in buyW&M.

This IT approval process only applies to Apple products. All other items still require the standard IT approval.

Other Computers

Departments who desire to purchase a computer from another manufacturer please proceed to Request IT and complete the Technology Procurement Review form.  Departments will be required to justify why a non-standard manufacturer is necessary.
