Understanding Ourselves to Understand Others In today’s interconnected world, navigating cultural differences is a must-have skillset that offers innumerable benefits, from fostering stronger personal and professional relationships and broadening your perspectives, to building more cohesive communities and deepening self-understanding. Join ISSP staff in this interactive workshop exploring culture and intercultural communication as it relates to YOU. Designed for those new to intercultural learning, attendees will participate in various activities that include active engagement, reflection, and discussion. Enduring Strength: Honoring Indigenous Traditions and Knowledge In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, this workshop invites participants to explore the enduring strength, contributions, and cultural vitality of Indigenous peoples. Through dialogue, storytelling, and reflection, we will examine how respect for tribal sovereignty, traditions, and knowledge systems enriches the fabric of American life and campus culture. Bridging Generations: Building Respect Across Age Groups This interactive session explores how generational differences can shape workplace dynamics, communication, and collaboration. Participants will examine common assumptions about age and experience, reflect on the strengths of a multigenerational workforce, and learn practical strategies to support respectful and effective engagement across age groups. Truth & Reconciliation: The Work of the Lemon Project - For nearly 20 years, William & Mary’s Lemon Project: A Journey of Reconciliation has worked to uncover hidden histories, engage descendant communities, and prepare students to be forces for good in the world. Rooted in truth-telling and reconciliation, the Project’s work demonstrates how scholarship and service can intersect to repair historical harm and build stronger futures. This workshop is a call to service. Participants will learn how original research and community partnerships have shaped the Project’s impact at William & Mary and beyond, while considering how these practices can be applied in their own contexts.
