Supervisor's Role

Supervisors play a central role in creating a meaningful leadership-development experience for fellows. Key responsibilities include:

  • Introducing fellows to staff members, departments, and institutional partners across the university
  • Collaborating with the fellow to develop and refine a pilot job description aligned with program goals and the fellow’s interests
  • Establishing a work schedule that fulfills the program’s time commitment agreement
  • Supporting the fellow’s growth through the program’s core pillars of education, exposure, and experience
  • Providing opportunities for job shadowing and observation of leadership practices
  • Serving as a mentor and professional guide throughout the fellowship
  • Sharing insights on national trends, emerging issues, and best practices in higher education leadership
  • Encouraging engagement with relevant professional associations, conferences, and networking opportunities
  • Offering regular feedback, coaching, and reflection opportunities to support professional development

The supervisor is expected to foster an environment that promotes leadership learning, institutional understanding, and professional growth while helping the fellow build practical experience in higher education administration.
