Biography
Jack Zamary ’27 grew up in Mexico, East Timor, and Colombia, where local cultures and traditions closely connected to the environment fueled his appreciation for conservation. From participating in beach cleanups to planting trees in local parks, he consistently sought opportunities to make a positive environmental impact.
Jack is pursuing a degree in Data Science with a minor in Biology, combining technical skills with his passion for conservation to support data-informed decision-making. He is involved in the Conservation GIS Lab, collaborating with the Wildlife Conservation Society, and the Keck Environmental Field Lab, where he contributes to a terrapin bycatch study and a living shoreline project with the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. His research experience spans both fieldwork and data analysis, including work with remote sensing datasets in Google Earth Engine.
Outside the classroom, Jack has served as president of the Tribe Cycling Club and co-leader of the Bike Alliance. He enjoys exploring Williamsburg and the surrounding area by bike, as well as running, hiking with friends, and learning new songs on the guitar.
