About Matt

Matt Smith is Associate Provost for Institutional Research & Effectiveness at William & Mary, where he oversees the Office of Institutional Accreditation and Effectiveness and the Office of Institutional Research. He provides strategic leadership that supports the university’s commitment to accountability, continuous improvement, and evidence-based decision-making. In addition to his leadership in higher education administration, Matt has an extensive record of peer-reviewed publications and scientific reports examining the immunotoxicity of biomedical materials and environmental chemicals identified for study by the National Toxicology Program of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.

Prior to joining William & Mary, Matt served as Director of Accreditation at George Mason University and as Institutional Effectiveness Director/Compliance Manager and Associate Professor of Mathematics at Richard Bland College. Earlier in his career, he taught middle and high school mathematics in Virginia.
