Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)

The QEP is a five-year initiative that focuses on improving student learning and/or success. A well-developed QEP is required in order to remain accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). SACSCOC accredits degree-granting institutions of higher education in 11 southern states, from Texas to Florida and north to Virginia. Developing and successfully executing a QEP is a required component of our reaffirmation of accreditation with SACSCOC, which occurs once every 10 years.
QEP Updates:

 April 10, 2024

Dear Colleagues,

As you know, W&M is preparing for reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). One of the most important components of the reaffirmation includes the development of a quality enhancement plan, or QEP, a five-year initiative specifically focused on improving student learning and/or student success.

Today I am pleased to announce that, following a robust and inclusive topic selection process, we have identified Applied Learning for All as the new QEP. Submitted by Charles Center Director Elizabeth Harbron and Chief Career Officer and AVP for Advancement Kathleen Powell, Applied Learning for All is a collaborative effort to facilitate achievement of the Vision 2026 goal of providing a funded applied learning experience for every student.

The QEP topic was identified through a process that solicited proposals, input, and feedback from across the university community. The Executive Leadership Team and the Reaffirmation Leadership Team, which were fortunate to have received a number of excellent proposals, identified the topic following public presentations by champions of the three finalist proposals and a review of feedback provided by faculty, staff, and students.

The next step in this effort focuses on developing the specifics of a comprehensive five-year plan, a task to be completed by the members of the soon-to-be appointed QEP Development Committee, led by Elizabeth and Kathleen.

William & Mary’s QEP will be rooted in the university’s mission and Vision 2026, driven by institutional assessment processes. I welcome each of you as partners as we move forward. The success of the plan requires collaboration with the entire W&M community – faculty, students, staff, administrators, and community partners.

Sincerely,
Peggy
