Program Overview
The dissertation process is one of the most challenging academic endeavors you'll face—but you don't have to navigate it alone.
DissConnect is a semester-long program designed to help doctoral students sustain momentum and make measurable progress. Participants will join a small, dedicated group for an immersive and supportive experience that combines community, accountability, skill-building, and coaching. Offered by the Graduate Center and the Graduate Writing and Communication Center.
Who Should Apply
This program is designed for W&M doctoral students at any stage of the dissertation process who are:
- Ready to commit to making consistent progress
- Seeking accountability and structure
- Eager to connect with peers who understand the process
Program Components & Dates
- Duration: January to May, 2026
- January 5-9, 2026: Writing Retreat. In person only; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., each day. Required.
- GRD 530: Dissertation Writing, non-credit course (free). Meets once per month in the Spring Semester, Fridays, 11-1, in person. Required.
- Two individual coaching sessions per month. Required.
- Participating in GWCC Writing Sprints is strongly encouraged.
