Awards
Graduate Paper Awards
Graduate students whose abstracts are accepted for presentation at the Graduate Research Symposium are eligible to submit a paper for award consideration in their respective category.
There are six main award categories:
- W&M graduate student research in the School of Computing, Data Science, and Physics
- W&M graduate student research in the College of Arts & Sciences
- W&M graduate student research in the School of Education
- W&M graduate student research in the Batten School for Marine and Coastal Sciences and VIMS
- Visiting graduate student (non-W&M) research in STEM fields
- Visiting graduate student (non-W&M) research in Humanities and Social Sciences fields
Graduate Paper Awards in the W&M student categories each carry a monetary award. We are unable to offer monetary awards in the visiting categories.

Poster Awards
Students who present posters at the Symposium's Poster Session and Networking Reception (Friday afternoon) are eligible for the $100 "People's Choice" award for best graduate research poster. Those in attendance are given ballots to select the best over-all poster based on the following criteria:
- Presenter summarized study clearly
- Presenter answered questions well
- Project objectives and/or research question were clearly outlined
- Effective overall aesthetic/organization of poster
