Global Scholars Program
W&M's Global Scholars Program (GSP) offers students a unique, cohort-based experiential learning opportunity that cultivates creative thinkers, principled decision makers, and compassionate global citizens and prepares them to become leaders in global policy and research roles in government, non-profit, and private sectors.
In this year-long (3-semester) program, students get a boundary-transcending experience through high engagement, experiential learning, and coursework that integrates policy practitioners and external experts alongside W&M faculty members.

Organized through the Global Research Institute and the W&M Washington Center, with support for the study abroad component from the Reves Center, the Global Scholars Program provides real-world application and experience beyond the classroom by providing opportunities to explore the world, engage in meaningful research and connect with mentors globally.
Students will choose from one of two cohorts when applying. The Global Policy cohort is offered every year, while the second cohort's focus changes year to year; in 2024-2025 we offered the U.S.-China Strategic Competition cohort, and in 2025-2026 we are offering the American Statecraft and Great Power Competition cohort.
Applications typically open in early February and are due in late March. Please check back in Spring 2026 for applications to the 2026-2027 cohorts.
