Chapter Overview & History
The Gamma Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha was founded at William & Mary on February 27, 1871, making it one of the earliest chapters of the fraternity. Nationally founded on March 1, 1868, Pi Kappa Alpha is built on the motto “Courage to Be More,” encouraging members to continually grow and strive for excellence.
At William & Mary, PIKE seeks to build a brotherhood committed not only to shared values, but to becoming more—more engaged, more disciplined, and more service-oriented. As one of the fraternity’s oldest chapters, Gamma honors its historic legacy while cultivating a modern culture of leadership, accountability, and lifelong connection.

“PIKE is a truly unique experience. I’ve had the privilege of watching this group of men grow into a true brotherhood invested in one another’s lives. There is a sense of camaraderie, passion, and joy that permeates every gathering. It’s a privilege to call myself a PIKE and to be part of a driven, community- and service-oriented group of men.” — Shalom Akolatse ’26
“I joined PIKE while navigating the transition into college and found a brotherhood that truly supports its members. We hold one another to a higher standard and push each other to be better in every aspect of our lives. I joined Greek life to be part of something bigger than myself, but what I found was a home.” — Jonathan Stashenko ’28
