The objectives of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. are to stimulate the ambition of its members; prepare them for the greatest usefulness in the causes of humanity, freedom, and the dignity of the individual; encourage the highest and noblest form of manhood; and aid downtrodden humanity in its efforts to achieve higher social, economic, and intellectual status.

Chapter Overview & History

The Kappa Pi Chapter (434) of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was chartered at William & Mary on May 31, 1975. Founded nationally on December 4, 1906, Alpha Phi Alpha is the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African American men.Alpha Phi Alpha members pose for a group photo.

Chartered by Timothy Earnest Allmond, Jr., Nathaniel Adeoluwa Folarin, William Lorenzo Jackson, Jr., Sheldon Jerome Johnson, John Oscar Little, Jr., Adeyemo Folusho Olanrewaju, Ronald Harvey Smoot, and Willie George Webb Walton, the Kappa Pi Chapter has remained committed to service, leadership, and advocacy both on campus and within the Williamsburg community.

Though limited in numbers throughout its history, the brothers of Kappa Pi have consistently demonstrated resilience, purpose, and dedication to the fraternity’s ideals. Guided by the spirit of Alpha and the vision of its founders, the chapter continues its work to uplift the community and bring honor to the name of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Philanthropy & Service

  • The Kappa Pi Chapter supports the March of Dimes, a national organization dedicated to improving the health of mothers and babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. Through service and advocacy, the chapter works to support healthier futures for families nationwide.
