Conduct Records and Disclosure Policy

General Policy Regarding Disclosure of Conduct Records


After you have graduated from the university: We only disclose instances of suspension or dismissal to entities outside the university community. If you have no record of suspension or dismissal, we will respond to inquiries as follows: "We only disclose records of suspension or dismissal post-graduation, and this student was neither suspended nor dismissed.”

While you are still a student at the university: See below for more information regarding whether we disclose records while you are a student and to whom.

Good Griffin Outcomes

Disclosure of Good Griffin Records to Outside Parties: Generally, the university does not release information regarding incidents to parties outside of the university community without your consent. The "university community" includes Residence Life, Study Abroad/Study Away, and Student Orientation and parents.

Parental Notification of Good Griffin Outcomes

  • Consensual Disclosure: If you have authorized the university to share information concerning student conduct actions with your parent(s) or guardian(s), we will notify the authorized party/parties of this resolution.
  • Non-consensual Disclosure for Alcohol/Drug Violations: If you are under the age of 21 and receive an educational measure other than Alcohol Skills Training Program (ASTP), we will notify your parent(s)/guardian(s) of this outcome after the appeal period has ended. We encourage you to contact your parent(s)/guardian(s) before the university does so.
Warnings

Disclosure of Records of Warnings to Outside Parties: Generally, the university does not release information regarding incidents to parties outside of the university community without your consent. The "university community" includes Residence Life, Study Abroad/Study Away, and Student Orientation and parents.

Parental Notification of Warnings

  • Consensual Disclosure: If you have authorized the university to share information concerning student conduct outcomes with you parent(s) or guardian(s), we will notify the authorized party/parties of this resolution following the conclusion of the appeal period.
Disciplinary Probation

Disclosure of Records of Probation to Outside Parties: Generally, the university does not release information regarding incidents to parties outside of the university community without your consent. The "university community" includes Residence Life, Study Abroad/Study Away, Student Orientation, and parents.

For the purpose of our disclosure policy, parent(s)/guardian(s) are considered members of the university community, so parent(s)/guardian(s) may be notified of the outcome of incidents resulting in probation in accordance with the policy below.

Parental Notification of Probation

  • Consensual Disclosure: If you have authorized the university to share information concerning student conduct actions with your parent(s) or guardian(s), we will notify the authorized party/parties of this resolution following the conclusion of the appeal period.
  • Non-consensual Disclosure for Alcohol/Drug Violations: If you are under the age of 21 and are found responsible for a violation of the Alcohol or Drug Policies resulting in Disciplinary Probation, we will notify your parents/guardians of this outcome after the appeal period has ended. We encourage you to contact your parents/guardians before the university does so.
Deferred Disciplinary Suspension
Disclosure of Records of Deferred Disciplinary Suspension to Outside Parties: Generally, the university does not release information regarding incidents to parties outside of the university community without your consent. The "university community" includes Residence Life, Study Abroad/Study Away, Student Orientation and parents.

For the purpose of our disclosure policy, parent(s)/guardian(s) are considered members of the university community, so parent(s)/guardian(s) may be notified of the outcome of incidents resulting in Deferred Suspension in accordance with the policy below.

Parental Notification of Deferred Disciplinary Suspension

  • Consensual Disclosure: If you have authorized the university to share information concerning student conduct actions with your parent(s) or guardian(s), we will notify the authorized party/parties of the outcome following the conclusion of the appeal period.
  • Non-consensual Disclosure for Alcohol/Drug Violations: If you are under the age of 21 and are found responsible for a violation of the Alcohol or Drug Policies resulting in Deferred Suspension, we will notify your parents/guardians of this outcome after the appeal period has ended. We encourage you to contact your parents/guardians before the university does so.

For the purpose of our disclosure policy, parent(s)/guardian(s) are considered members of the university community, so parent(s)/guardian(s) may be notified of the outcome of incidents resulting in dismissal accordance with the policy below.

Parental Notification of Permanent Dismissal

  • Consensual Disclosure: If you have authorized the university to share information concerning student conduct actions with your parent(s) or guardian(s), we will notify the authorized party/parties of this outcome following the conclusion of the appeal period.
  • Non-consensual Disclosure for Alcohol/Drug Violations: If you are under the age of 21 and are found responsible for a violation of the Alcohol or Drug Policies resulting in Dismissal, we will notify your parents/guardians of this outcome after the appeal period has ended. We encourage you to contact your parents/guardians before the university does so.
