American Politics 2018 Fellows

	Henry Blackburn '20 Henry Blackburn is a sophomore from Dallas, Texas, majoring in philosophy and government. He has always been interested in politics but recently fell in love with political theory after taking a class at the Ccollege. On campus, he is a Tribe Ambassador with the admissions department, a tour guide, an Orientation Aide, and a member of the Diverse Philosophies club. He also occasionally works as a barista at Swem Aromas when in need of a study break from Rousseau or Hegel. Off campus, he loves to snowboard and climb mountains whenever he can fit in the time. He hopes to study democratic theory with the institute and learn about the necessary conditions for democratic institutions to uphold liberty.
	Lillian Bramble '19 Lillian Bramble is a junior at the College of William and Mary, majoring in Government with a minor in Economics. Lillian lives in Fredericksburg, VA, where she graduated from Mountain View High School with an International Baccalaureate degree. She then attended Germanna Community College where she was a Student Ambassador and the Vice President of Service for the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, before graduating Summa Cum Laude with her Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts in May 2017. Lillian has been very interested in our political process and volunteered for a presidential campaign this past election from the primaries up to the general election.  With this passion for politics, Lillian hopes that the DC Summer Institute will provide the opportunity to learn firsthand what it is really like to work in D.C. and the challenges that are rarely seen outside of that environment.
	Allison Brown '20 Allison​ ​Brown​ ​is​ ​a​ ​sophomore​ ​at​ ​the​ ​College​ ​studying​ ​Government​ ​and​ ​Environmental Science​ ​and​ ​Policy.​ ​She​ ​grew​ ​up​ ​in​ ​Vienna,​ ​Virginia,​ ​just​ ​20​ ​minutes​ ​outside​ ​of​ ​Washington D.C.,​ ​and​ ​has​ ​been​ ​visiting​ ​the​ ​city​ ​since​ ​she​ ​can​ ​remember.​ ​Before​ ​coming​ ​to​ ​William​ ​and Mary,​ ​Allison​ ​was​ ​a​ ​founding​ ​member​ ​of​ ​the​ ​Virginia​ ​chapter​ ​of​ ​Inspire​ ​U.S.,​ ​an​ ​organization that​ ​seeks​ ​to​ ​increase​ ​youth​ ​political​ ​participation​ ​and​ ​helps​ ​register​ ​young​ ​voters.​ ​On​ ​campus, Allison​ ​is​ ​a​ ​W&M​ ​tour​ ​guide,​ ​is​ ​involved​ ​in​ ​the​ ​co-ed​ ​service​ ​fraternity​ ​Alpha​ ​Phi​ ​Omega,​ ​and​ ​is an​ ​ESL​ ​tutor​ ​through​ ​the​ ​Community​ ​Partnership​ ​for​ ​Adult​ ​Learners.​ ​Allison​ ​has​ ​become increasingly​ ​interested​ ​in​ ​the​ ​political​ ​process​ ​and​ ​its​ ​effect​ ​on​ ​policy​ ​implementation,​ ​and​ ​after graduation​ ​she​ ​plans​ ​to​ ​pursue​ ​a​ ​career​ ​in​ ​environmental​ ​policy​ ​in​ ​the​ ​public​ ​sector.​ ​She​ ​is passionate​ ​about​ ​the​ ​necessity​ ​for​ ​widespread​ ​environmental​ ​policy​ ​both​ ​nationally​ ​and globally,​ ​and​ ​she​ ​believes​ ​that​ ​a​ ​career​ ​in​ ​government​ ​is​ ​the​ ​best​ ​way​ ​for​ ​her​ ​to​ ​make​ ​a difference​ ​in​ ​the​ ​field.​ ​Allison​ ​is​ ​greatly​ ​looking​ ​forward​ ​to​ ​experiencing​ ​the​ ​professional​ ​world through​ ​her​ ​American​ ​Politics​ ​fellowship​ ​in​ ​the​ ​city​ ​she’s​ ​admired​ ​her​ ​entire​ ​life.
	Tye Brown-Wolf '21 Tye Brown-Wolf is a freshman in the Joint Degree Program between the College of William & Mary and the University of St. Andrews. He is majoring in economics and pursuing a minor in government. On campus, Tye is a member of the William & Mary debate society and a tutor in the program Tutoring for Social Change. Tye interned for his state representative in the spring of 2017 and served as president of Colorado Student Leader’s Institute. Outside of the classroom, Tye enjoys skiing, swimming, and cooking. This summer, he hopes to benefit as a young adult from the networking opportunities; as a student from the easily accessible information; and as a citizen from the political experience.
	Isabel Cooper '21 Isabel Cooper is a freshman at the College from McLean, Virginia, and she is considering a major in Government, Economics, or History. Growing up right outside of the nation’s capital has allowed her to develop a keen interest in politics and the workings of the U.S. government, so she is excited to be getting a closer look this summer. On campus, Isabel works on a variety of community service projects with Circle K International, and she also helps Williamsburg high school seniors with their college applications through Tribe College Outreach. In her free time, Isabel enjoys listening to music, drinking Aromas, and exploring Colonial Williamsburg with her friends. She is looking forward to learning more about career opportunities and the American political process through this program!
	Ali Engelhardt '19 Ali Engelhardt is a junior at William & Mary, pursuing a Government major and Finance minor. Born and raised in sunny San Diego, California, she was recruited to play basketball here at the College. She was a member of the varsity basketball team for her first two years, but due to injuries, she withdrew from the team. She volunteers her time with the Arc of Greater Williamsburg and the Campus Kitchen. Her fascination with DC began freshman year when she visited for the first time. She hopes that her experience in the American Politics institute will improve her knowledge on the inner workings of our government and the increasing political polarization of today’s society.
	Kat Johnson '21 Kat is a freshman at the College from Waynesboro, Virginia. She intends to major in Government and minor in Middle Eastern Studies. Kat’s interest in governmental relations expanded over the past 18 months: as a community activist, she organized a march supporting local police; as a School Board Representative, she collected and provided student input on school renovation plans; as an intern at a Local Workforce Development Board, she worked to support regional implementation of the U.S. DOL Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act; and as an intern at the UVA Center for Politics, she worked on the Youth Leadership Initiative focused on civil discourse. Her research includes a state study on high school students’ political engagement. At W&M, Kat is a member of the club basketball team and ultimate frisbee team. Kat is excited to be part of the 2018 Summer Institute and is eager to learn as much as possible while in DC.
	Claire Kartoz '19 Claire is a junior at the college, studying International Relations and Environmental Policy. Around campus, Claire is a tour guide and member of the club swim team. Claire has been heavily involved with W&M High School Model UN, serving as Registration Director this past year. She will serve as an Orientation Area Director this fall to help welcome new students to W&M. Last summer, Claire interned for AidData’s Geocoding department. Originally from West Windsor, New Jersey, she is looking forward to living in D.C for the summer and engaging in all it has to offer. Claire hopes to learn how to engage both sides of the aisle in creating a sustainable future for all.
	Josh Kluger '19 Josh is a junior majoring in History and Government, and will be participating in the American Politics Summer Institute this summer. He is from Basking Ridge, New Jersey, which is about an hour south of New York City.  He became interested in politics relatively recently (at the start of the 2016 presidential primary season), and since then have devoted much of his free time to learning more about the political process.  He joined the executive board of the William and Mary Young Democrats at the start of his sophomore year, and has since worked on  campaigns in both Virginia and New Jersey using his experience from the club.   Outside of campaigns, he is interested in policy, and how it is created.  His particular interest is in foreign policy, but as he has learned more about domestic policy through campaigns, his interests have expanded into that area as well.  He interned in DC last summer working for Congressman Eliot Engel from New York, and is excited to have the opportunity to intern in the city again this summer!
	Stephanie Lodico '21 Stephanie Lodico is a freshman at William & Mary from Roanoke, Virginia. She is planning on pursuing a major and a minor in her two passions: government and foreign languages. She hopes to study abroad in her sophomore year. Stephanie is also a member of the American Sign Language Club and the NAACP on campus and loves to read and swim in her spare time, and used to coach a swim team in her summers before coming to the College. After graduation, Stephanie hopes to use the knowledge and skillset she gains from the D.C. Summer Institute this coming summer to combine her passions and is beyond excited about the opportunities and experiences she will get to have.
	Anne Pietrow '20 Anne is a sophomore at the College majoring in Government with the hopes to add a major or minor in English. She is from Rhinebeck, New York and attended Rhinebeck High School. Anne is interested in the way media has shaped polarization within American politics and how precedents set by the courts influence politics and legislation. Her interest in politics and legislation was bolstered by her internship with the District Attorney’s Office of Ulster County, New York and her internship with the Gender Equality Law Center in Brooklyn, New York this past summer. She is an undergraduate research assistant for the Social Network and Political Psychology (SNaPP) Lab, a representative for the Undergraduate Honor Council, and a member of Delta Gamma Fraternity. She is looking forward to exploring D.C. and the professional opportunities offered to her by the Summer Institute this summer.
	Heather Rodenberg '21 Heather Rodenberg is currently a freshman most recently from Fort Worth, Texas but she has also lived in Swaziland, California, and West Virginia.  She is pursuing a double major in International Relations and Economics at the College.  On campus, she is a member of the International Relations Club, Young Democrats, Equestrian Club, and is on the staff for the Tribe Attaché.  She has always been interested in government and interned for the mayor of Bethany, WV as well as for Mike Mullin’s State House campaign in VA.  Heather was born in South Africa and has always loved other cultures.  She hopes to combine her passion for the world and government in her studies both at the College and at the Summer Institute.  Outside of school Heather enjoys riding horses, reading, traveling, and drinking excessive amounts of coffee.  After college she hopes to attend law school and one day work in DC in foreign affairs and is thrilled at the opportunity to study and work in the capitol this summer.
	Sam Towler '20 Sam Towler is a sophomore at the College of William and Mary who grew up in the Hampton Roads area of southeastern Virginia.  He is planning to double major in Accounting and Government.  On campus, Sam is the Vice President of the club Quidditch team and is also involved in Campus Buddies, an organization that works with children with special needs on the weekends.  He has previously been involved in campus politics in the role of Hall Council President for the Green and Gold Village.  Outside of school related activities, he is a big sports enthusiast and enjoys going out and volunteering in the community.  Sam is looking forward to his opportunity to live and work in the D.C. area, where he is thinking about residing after completing his education.
	Carter Trousdale '20 Carter Lewis Trousdale is a transfer sophomore who is NOT from Northern Virginia, hailing instead from the blustery wonderland of Chicago, Illinois. He is studying International Relations and French (previously studied International Business and Entrepreneurship) with his sights set on law school and most likely an MBA. He aspires to one day become the James Bond of International Business Law, traveling and working around the world. On campus, Carter competes with the W&M Debate Team and the Club Tennis team and works for the Mason School of Business in Advancement. Carter’s hobbies include powerlifting & personal training, music (he plays the piano, guitar, & ukulele), languages (he speaks French and is teaching himself Russian, Arabic, German & Italian), and reading. Some of Carter’s current favorite authors include Tony Robbins, Tim Ferriss, and the Dalai Lama. Fun fact: Carter is named after a former president. Can you guess which one?
	Hailey Ulrich '20 Hailey is a current sophomore at the College, from Vienna, Virginia. She was born and raised just outside the D.C. area and has always viewed the District’s political scene from a distance. She is excited to now explore its inner workings and many career paths! Hailey is currently studying Government and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies, and is eager to apply this knowledge in D.C. this summer. Hailey has always had a passion for protecting human rights, and focuses on women’s rights in her activism. On campus, she is involved in William and Mary’s Amnesty International branch as Co-Coordinator, as well as VOX—Voices for Planned Parenthood, Club Tennis, and Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She very much looks forward to this summer to further explore American Politics!
	Lindsey Washington '19 Lindsey Washington is currently a junior at the College.  She is from Leesburg, Virginia and is looking forward to spending the summer in the area.  She is majoring in international relations and is planning to minor in economics.  She is currently an intern for the Diplomatic Courier Magazine.  On campus she is a reviewer for the undergraduate journal the Monitor and a member of Pi Sigma Alpha.  She is looking forward to the D.C. Summer Institute and hopes it will aid her in her future career.
	Annie Winebrenner '20 Annie Winebrenner is a sophomore at the College from Falls Church, Virginia. She is double majoring in Government and Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies. On campus, Annie is an Undergraduate Admissions tour guide, a member of Students for University Advancement, a part of the Office of First Year Experience as an Orientation Aide, and a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She is excited to take part in the American Politics institute and merge her studies with her passion for politics and women's and reproductive rights. Annie looks forward to taking advantage of all of the opportunities this program has to offer.
	Abe Winterscheidt '20 Abe Winterscheidt is a Sophomore at William and Mary planning on double majoring in Government and Economics. Abe is from Tucker, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. After college, he would like to enter law school and specialize in Constitutional Law. In his free time, Abe is a published author, writing an alternate history-epic fantasy series The Nightstalker Saga, and a professional astro - and nature photographer
	Corey York '19 Corey York is currently a junior at the college, majoring in Government and minoring in History. After serving over five years in the Marine Corps, Corey has traveled to over 14 countries whether for work or leisure- to include VIP support for SecState and POTUS at the 2014 NATO Wales Conference. Corey has also partaken in a summer internship in a U.S. Senator’s office where he learned about domestic politics. Post-baccalaureate Corey hopes to apply to Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service for International Securities studies. On campus, he is the President at Student Veterans of William & Mary. Corey’s career goals are to serve within the international security apparatus of the federal government.
