Get to know W&M's newest undergraduates

William & Mary’s newest undergraduates will arrive on campus in just one week to move into their residence halls and begin orientation.
The Class of 2023 will include approximately 1,540 students, selected from more than 14,600 applicants. Additionally, 180 new transfer students are expected to enroll this fall.
Hailing from locations around the country and across the world, the new students bring with them a vast range of experiences, skills and accomplishments.
“After getting to know the incoming students through their applications and by meeting many of them throughout the year in person, all of us in the Admission Office are excited about officially welcoming them to campus as members of the William & Mary Class of 2023,” said Tim Wolfe, associate provost for enrollment and dean of admission.
The Class of 2023 is academically accomplished, with an SAT middle 50th percentile of 1320-1510 and an ACT composite score middle 50th percentile of 30-34. Seventy-five percent of the students graduated in the top 10 percent of their classes.
The class is also diverse. Students of color make up 33 percent of the freshmen. Seven percent are international students, and 10 percent are first-generation students.
Their interests are diverse, too. The class includes a student who twice placed in the top three at the World Series of Birding, a gold medal winner at a U.S. Sailing Junior Olympic Windsurfing Festival, a pilot, a blacksmith, a volunteer firefighter, a member of the Second City Teen Ensemble and a four-time Star Wars trivia state champion.
“The stories and experiences they shared through their applications, along with their academic and extracurricular accomplishments, all indicate that they will be an outstanding fit for our community,” said Wolfe. “I’m confident they will learn much during their time here. Likewise, I’m confident that they have much to offer, and William & Mary will be an even stronger, better place with them on our campus.”
