Celebrating Creativity: Faculty exhibit art during Homecoming

William & Mary, the first American university to create a department of fine arts, is celebrating its artistic roots during Homecoming Week.
The Muscarelle Museum of Art will exhibit recent works created by studio art faculty from the department of art and art history, including visiting instructors and emeritus professors, beginning Saturday, Oct. 27 through Sunday, Jan. 6. This exhibition marks the 12th W&M Faculty Show and will highlight the diverse talents of the faculty in multiple media, including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics and installation. Opening reception for the Faculty Show 12 begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26.
“As a university museum, two of our goals are to utilize the museum as a laboratory of learning for students and to collaborate with the faculty of the College,” said Aaron de Groft, director of the Muscarelle. “This exhibition provides us the opportunity to do both.”
In total, 14 artists will participate in the show, including: Brian Kelley, Brian Kreydatus, Edwin Pease, Elizabeth Mead, Jayson Lowery, John Lee, Lewis Cohen, Linda Carey, Marlene Jack, Michael Gaynes, Mike Jabbur, Naomi Falk, Nicole McCormick Santiago and Suzanne Demeo.
Students and members of the community will be provided opportunities to engage faculty members through several gallery talks that will take place during the month of November in a series called Faculty Fridays at Five. The faculty gallery talks are scheduled for Nov. 2, 6, and 30 at 5 p.m.
Admission is $10 for the general public and free for Museum members, William & Mary faculty, staff, and students, as well as children under twelve.
