Logo Usage Guidelines

To maintain consistency, legibility and brand integrity across all applications, these standards apply to every use of the William & Mary logo and all official unit or department logos.

Approved Color Versions

  • The logo has four approved color versions
    • Green & Gold
    • Green
    • White & Gold
    • White
  • The logo may never appear in Spirit Gold or any other unapproved color.
  • When using color backgrounds, ensure sufficient contrast for readability and accessibility.
  • For dark backgrounds, use the White or White & Gold version; for light backgrounds, use Green
    or Green & Gold.

Image Quality & Reproduction

  • Always reproduce the logo from official, high-resolution digital artwork provided by University
    Marketing.
  • Do not attempt to redraw, scan, trace or otherwise recreate the logo.
  • The logo must remain sharp and legible at all sizes; if small-scale reproduction reduces
legibility, use the simplified or approved alternate mark.

Clear Space & Minimum Size

  • Maintain a minimum clear space around the logo equal to the height of the “W” in “William.” No
text, images or design elements may intrude into this area.
  • The primary logo should never appear smaller than 1 inch (print) or 100 pixels wide (digital) to
    ensure legibility.

No Alterations or Distortions

The logo may not be altered in any way. Prohibited modifications include:

  • Changing the typeface or rearranging elements
  • Adding outlines, gradients, shadows or other effects
  • Stretching, condensing or rotating the logo
  • Creating unapproved secondary or alternate versions

Cropping & Integrity

  • The logo must always appear in full; it may not be cropped, cut off or partially obscured.
  • Never enclose the logo in shapes, boxes, or containers unless part of an approved lockup.
  • Avoid transparency effects or overlay treatments.
