Bio

Joe Fitzgibbon received his BA with honors in History and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He focuses his scholarly efforts on the United States in the 19th century. His current research project explores the different forms of statecraft employed by the US government to manage European immigration (with an emphasis on the Irish) from the mid 1850s through the end of the American Civil War. He also has a more general interest in the history of sport.
