"Citoyennes Without Citizenship: Representations of Women During the French Revolution"
My thesis discusses representations of women in popular media in the French Revolution. I am analyzing posters, ceramics, literature, Lesueur's gouaches, and engravings in comparison to actual perceptions and activity of real women of the era. I focus on the overarching issues of divorce, allegorical representations, actual female political activity, and counter-revolutionary activity in terms of the aforementioned media.
