Study Psychology at William & Mary
Explore Psychological Sciences at William & Mary
At William & Mary, the Department of Psychological Sciences helps students explore why and how people think, feel and act. You’ll learn to apply psychological knowledge in research, clinical, educational and professional settings. As one of the largest and most active undergraduate programs at the university, it offers a curriculum that spans the natural and social sciences, covering topics such as cognition, learning and memory, social behavior, personality, human development, psychopathology, physiology and research methods. Students develop critical thinking, quantitative reasoning and scientific literacy while learning to integrate theory, research and real-world application.
From your first semester, you’ll engage in hands-on research opportunities, collaborating with faculty on projects ranging from child development in high-risk environments to memory processes and the study of stereotypes and prejudice. You’ll gain practical experience through internships, applied learning projects and connections with the broader Williamsburg community, preparing you for a career in psychology, health, law, business, education and related fields.
With access to award-winning faculty, advanced laboratory resources and professional networks, graduates leave William & Mary well equipped to pursue graduate study or meaningful careers.

Hear from a Student
I came into college knowing one of my majors would be psychology. I was absolutely fascinated with how the brain works and our interactions with one another. I mean, on what other campus would you get to hold a brain? I have learned so much in my classes here that has shaped my perspective on so many other subjects and experiences in my life.
