Academic Leadership Development

Provost Agouris is committed to supporting the development of academic leaders on campus with the intention of supporting individual development to advance the collective good of the university. The approach to leadership development and preparation for mid-level academic leaders includes three main pillars:

  1. Leadership development
  2. Training in business operations, such as human resources, budget, etc. (underway);
  3. Training in academic administration, such as faculty evaluation and workload, enrollment, curriculum, etc. (TBD).
Supporting Mid-level Academic Leaders

The essence of the 2023-2024 year-long academic leadership development program, Supporting Mid-level Academic Leaders, focuses on providing needed background on several topics critical to learning to lead in an academic context, whereas the other two pillars provide training on the nuts and bolts of mid-level academic leadership. Widespread feedback was sought in developing the leadership development portion of this initiative, with attention paid to tangible tools ready for immediate implementation and the building of a community of mid-level leaders. Including reflection on personal approaches to leading and small-group work helps personalize the program. Importantly, presenters for the sessions will be faculty and staff with expertise in the included topics.

The inaugural cohort for this leadership program is expected to be around 25 individuals.
