On-Campus Leadership Opportunities
Coaches & Captains

Coaches and captains are responsible for scheduling practices, conducting VODs, developing the game-day roster, attending weekly League meetings, and reporting to the Director in weekly Coaches’ Meetings. Esports Pioneers (EPs)

Esports Pioneers (EPs) are students who put an esports lens on their area of interest including but not limited to the following:

  • Academics & Research
    Responsible for promoting academic and extracurricular esports and gaming opportunities at the university. Serves on the Faculty Task Force and other relevant bodies in developing coursework and other academic programs for William & Mary, and also works with other EPs to further develop the Esports program generally. Oversees the Student Advisory Committee, which is charged with advising the Faculty Task Force and Esports Advisory Board on various esports affairs. Attends weekly EP meetings with the Director.   • Analytics
    Responsible for generating and maintaining a demographics database storing information on our athletes, coaches, and staff. This database is used to provide timely information regarding the composition of our program as well as to generate statistics, email lists, and dashboards. The EP collects and analyzes in-game data to optimize team performance and generates useful insights impacting strategy and gameplay across multiple titles. Assists in overall strategic decision making including, but not limited to, marketing, event planning, merchandising, and program objectives. Attends weekly EP meetings with the Director.   • Community Engagement
    Responsible for fostering community through social functions and events. Maintains the event calendar and coordinates press coverage within designated budget.  Attends weekly EP meetings with the Director. (Independent Study or Internship) Contact [[esports]] if interested.
  • Production
    Responsible for providing commentary and livestreams showcasing our varsity teams in and out of competition. Coordinates with Social Media EPs to advertise broadcasts, and creates reels, clips, and interviews that reflect the Program and its values. Attends weekly EP meetings with the Director.   • Social Media
    Responsible for managing the official W&M Esports social media account on each platform (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook) and creating posts concerning occasional important news or to celebrate team accomplishments daily/weekly. The pioneer must also take advantage of opportunities to continue growing the community through contests, planning events, and seasonal newsletters. Attends weekly EP meetings with the Director.   • Sponsorships & Outreach
    Responsible for connecting W&M Esports with partners and sponsors through creative avenues. The goal of a sponsorships EP should be to elevate the brand that is W&M Esports as it aligns with the mission and goals of what the school strives to be. Generating revenue and driving growth opportunities for the team via industry relationships and strategic planning is a key function of the role. Attends weekly EP meetings with the Director.   • Wellness Advocate
    Responsible for assisting varsity players in the preservation of their mental and physical wellbeing. Explores research opportunities, ways to improve upon current methods to provide a equitous and healthy environment for players to thrive, and collaborate with resources on campus to promote development workshops and training. Assistant to the Director
The ideal candidate must be an undergraduate or graduate student who is responsible for facilitating and implementing decisions and initiatives as delegated by the Director. The Assistant will possess superior communication skills, organizational skills, and initiative. They will learn the logistical and administrative operations of the Esports Program. Attends weekly EP meetings with the Director.
