W&M's Digital Presence: Review Banner Images on Your Site

Contact:  [[creative]]

Summary

The following message was sent to select Cascade editors and managers on October 31, 2025.

Full Description

Banner images appear at the top of every William & Mary webpage. Many offices and departments have a custom bank of banner images that reflect their focus and purpose, while others use their global site's standard campus photos.

For Those With Custom Banner Images

As part of this fall's Content Cleanup project, consider also reviewing the custom banner images currently in place for your site(s). You can view a site's banner photos most easily by navigating in Cascade to /images/bannerphotos/ (or /_images/bannerphotos/ on cdsp.wm.edu) and locating the site-specific folder. Once you select that folder, you can review the images it contains.

Here are some things to look for when reviewing your folder:

  • Outdated images, including photos of faculty or staff who have left, changes to campus, or other visuals that no longer reflect the current environment
  • Images featuring COVID-19 masks
  • Images showing any improper safety practices

Note: University Web & Design will soon be reviewing banner image folders for www.wm.edu editors to identify and remove images featuring COVID-19 masks.

How to Request Removals

For editors in www.wm.edu, if you need any of your banner images to be removed, or if you are unable to locate your banner images folder for review, please contact [[creative]].
