W&M's Digital Presence: Accessibility Compliance Guidance, Tools & Available Support for POCs
Summary
The following message was sent to select Cascade editors and managers on February 3, 2026.
Full Description
Hello POCs -
While we continue to be available to you for any remaining questions that may arise as you complete the initial content review, our team has now refocused our efforts on accessibility compliance: www.wm.edu/cascade/cleanup
Today we write to provide you with additional guidance and resources to help ensure the university's websites meet federal and state regulations for digital accessibility by their upcoming compliance deadline of April 24, 2026. Later this week we will also share information and resources with all Cascade editors so they can help you in this important work.
In preparation we have:
- detailed the accessibility compliance responsibilities for POCs and other editors
- added accessibility guidance and tips throughout the Cascade Help pages
- ensured the Acquia Web Governance accessibility module is configured to support you in this work
- enhanced our instructions on how to use the Acquia Web Governance accessibility checklists to review and fix issues
- scheduled semi-weekly online accessibility demonstrations that are open to all editors (the first one is later today - join us!)
- scheduled weekly POC office hours to answer questions you may have about the accessibility checks and how to resolve issues
Requirements for POCs At-a-Glance
- Fix all "Issues to Fix" on your accessibility checklists
- Review and try to resolve any "Warnings" on your accessibility checklists
- Understand the "Issues to Review" included on your accessibility checklists
- Review and evaluate needs for all documents manually
- Understand the special exceptions for archival content
Details of the requirements, plus quick access to guidance, tools and support: www.wm.edu/cascade/cleanup/accessibility
Note: As of this week, all questions or requests for our team should now be submitted through the request form instead of via direct email: www.wm.edu/marcomm/request
