"This is Not My Art"

Featuring Adriano Marinazzo, Curator of Special Projects, Muscarelle Museum of Art, in conversation with Omiyẹmi (Artisia) Green

In this immersive multimedia event, Adriano Marinazzo reimagined Michelangelo’s famed Sistine Ceiling by transforming its fictive architecture into a fully realized, three-dimensional digital structure for the first time. “This Is Not My Art” took its title from Michelangelo’s own words — his initial protest to Pope Julius II, claiming, “This is not my art,” because he considered himself a sculptor, not a painter.

But the title carried layered significance. The piece was Adriano’s original creation — crafted through contemporary digital design — yet it also served as a meticulous homage to Michelangelo’s Renaissance masterpiece. It invited viewers into a space where authorship, interpretation and technology converged.

Adriano Marinazzo and Omiyemi Green conversation

In conversation with director of the Art & Science Exchange, Omiyẹmi (Artisia) Green, the event explored how art history, architectural illusion and immersive technology intersect to challenge our understanding of artistic legacy. Is art what we make, or what we reimagine? Where does the artist end and the interpreter begin?

This dynamic fusion of digital innovation and historical reflection exemplified the Art & Science Exchange’s mission: to create new pathways for interdisciplinary exploration, cultural interpretation and creative curiosity.
