Jill Ellis ’88, L.H.D ’16

Two-Time World Cup Champion

Major: {{https://www.wm.edu/as/english/index.php,English Literature and Composition}}

Former William & Mary women's soccer standout Jill Ellis has been at the helm of the last two World Cup titles. She's the first coach in Women's World Cup history to win back-to-back World Cup titles and just the second-ever to accomplish that feat in FIFA history. In May 2023, she was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

Jill played forward for the Tribe from 1984-1987 and the records she set for points and goals are still in the top 10 at William & Mary. She helped the Tribe to the NCAA tournament all four seasons, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 1987.

Jill earned her degree in English literature and composition and has remained closely connected to W&M since graduating. In 2015, Tribe Athletics recognized her with the Tribe Champion for Life award. In 2016, she gave a moving Commencement address and was awarded an honorary degree. In April 2024, William & Mary Athletics dedicated Jill Ellis Field in the new 1987 Women’s Soccer Team Training Center in her honor.
