System Dictionary
The Cascade spell-check dictionary used across all Sites.
The Cascade System Dictionary is system-wide, shared by all Sites and all editors. It contains a default set of nearly 2,000 words along with those Cascade Managers and Administrators have manually added.
As an Editor
- Editors cannot add or remove items from the System Dictionary.
- When a term is flagged by the Content Checker, editors can only choose to ignore or fix it.
As a Manager
- In the Content Checker, in addition to ignoring and fixing, managers see the option to add a flagged word to the dictionary.
- Please use this capability cautiously.
- If editors request specific terms be added to the dictionary, please keep all editors in mind.
- Do not add terms that could cause common misspellings to go undetected.
- Do not add proper names which can lead to misspellings.
- Do not add obscure acronyms that may lead to misspellings.
- Do not add specific styles of times and dates as this can cause issues for other Sites.
As Administrators
- University Web & Design performs a periodic review of the dictionary, removing terms deemed potentially problematic.
- University Web & Design adds common W&M terms that are deemed safe from causing unintended misspellings.
