About Susan

As Budget Director, Susan Mulholland provides comprehensive oversight of financial resources across all Student Affairs thematic areas and supports the strategic allocation of these resources. With 15 years of experience at William & Mary, progressing from departmental to school-wide financial leadership roles in the College of Arts & Sciences and the Raymond A. Mason School of Business, Susan brings significant institutional knowledge and budgeting expertise to Student Affairs. Susan is thrilled to leverage her experience towards advancing Student Affairs divisional priorities and further contributing to the broader university mission.

In William & Mary's School of Business, Susan was instrumental in developing comprehensive annual budgets based on tuition and fee revenue projections, private fund balances, and the requirements of all fund sources. Additionally, Susan provided custom budget to actual reporting for all Business School units as a basis for adherence to approved plans and the ability to pivot to address revenue deviations and new initiatives.

As Private Funds Manager in the College of Arts & Sciences, Susan's close oversight underpinned the identification and strategic reallocation of funds for the development of an internal faculty grants process that advanced compelling student-faculty research, pedagogical improvements, and opportunities for rich cultural experiences. 

Prior to joining William & Mary, Susan worked as a licensed engineer on environmental projects encompassing pollution prevention, resource management, site restoration, and regulatory compliance and development. Her experience with a wide range of stakeholders involved in these projects along with her deeply-held beliefs in conservation and education guide her commitment to a holistic view in all resource decision-making. Beyond professional work, Susan enjoys spending as much time as possible outdoors in the garden, hiking, or on a bike path, especially with family and friends.
