Monroe Hall

Opened in 1924. Renovated in 2024.

Monroe Hall's 123 first-year residents enjoy living on four recently renovated floors.

Monroe is situated near the Sunken Garden, and its classical architecture compliments the historic side of campus. The hall is home to W&M's Monroe Scholars, and residents enjoy numerous lounges and study spaces, communal kitchens on each floor, and first-floor programming spaces.

Monroe First-Floor Room Details

Monroe Hall's first floor includes ten bedrooms with single-use hall bathrooms, a lounge, learning commons, a recreation lounge with an attached kitchen, programming/project rooms, and a laundry room near additional bathrooms (toilet/sink). Stairwells are at both ends of the hall, as well as a central stairwell. The elevator is in the central/front lobby area near the central stairs.

Monroe Second-Floor Room Details

Monroe Hall's second floor includes 24 bedrooms with single-hall bathrooms and a central lounge, kitchen and study room. Stairwells are at both ends of the hall, as well as a central stairwell. The elevator is in the center/front of the building near the central stairs.

Monroe Third-Floor Room Details

Monroe Hall's fourth floor includes 14 bedrooms with single-hall bathrooms and a central lounge, kitchen and study room. Stairwells are at both ends of the hall. The elevator is located in the center/front of the building.

Furniture Specifications

The following table provides information about the furniture in the residence halls. Please note these specifications are only a guide, and furniture may vary from room to room.

Lofts, carpets, futons, TVs and microfridges can be rented from Dorms Direct. These items are set up in the room before check-in and removed after check-out in May by the supplying vendor.
