Jason McDevitt serves as Director of Research Innovation and Commercialization. Dr. McDevitt received a Ph.D. in chemistry from MIT, and a BA in chemistry from Yale. He is also a registered patent agent.
After receiving his doctorate, Dr. McDevitt held various positions in central research and business development in the chemical, biotech, and consumer products industries. He subsequently worked in the technology licensing offices of the University of Georgia and Emory University prior to joining W&M in July, 2004.
Dr. McDevitt is an inventor on over 30 issued United States patents covering a wide range of technologies including pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, medical devices, polymers, catalysts, textiles, ammunition, and consumer products. His inventions have been licensed to companies such as Gillette (Oral-B division, now part of P&G), Tikvah Therapeutics, Extinction Pharmaceuticals, Olin (Winchester division), GreenOps Ammo, Eco Shot, and RMR Therapeutics. He has been a founder and president/CEO of startup companies in the drug discovery, nutraceutical, and ammunition fields.
