Griffin School Partnerships

Griffin School Partnerships (GSP) provides opportunities for W&M students to support Williamsburg-James City County public schools through classroom support, after-school tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment opportunities. It is built out of the work formerly done by College Partnership for Kids and Project Phoenix over their 20+ year histories.

GSP offers a variety of options for students to engage with local schools. As classroom assistants, they support teachers' work with students. They may lead small groups, provide one-on-one support, or move about the classroom to assist as needed. Through Griffin After-School, tutors provide after-school academic support and group activities in middle schools. They also welcome their students to campus multiple times each semester for enrichment programs. Through Griffin Mentoring, mentors make a year-long commitment to supporting the development of individual elementary or middle school students. GSP provides orientation, training, and ongoing support to all participants. Transportation is also provided.

In addition to partnering with local schools, GSP also fosters a lifelong commitment to education equity among its members. Through opportunities to learn, serve, and reflect, participants gain a deeper understanding of social justice issues in education and their role in addressing them.
