Research at GRI

Each year, the Global Research Institute supports a portfolio of research from across the university. The researchers come from departments across campus. The methods vary wildly, and the geographic focus ranges from the Chesapeake Bay to Tanzania. What does all that work have in common? The potential to resonate outside the academy and make a difference in the world.

GRI's core staff work with researchers across the portfolio to help them reach the next step for their work, whether it's targeting the grant that will allow them to scale, building partnerships with organizations that can implement their work, or designing a communications strategy that will raise the visibility of the research.

GRI has spent the last two decades gaining an understanding of the idea-impact pipeline—how to build teams, develop partnerships that sustain the work, and put applied research in the hands of people who can use it. Many of the alumni projects GRI incubated are ongoing based in other places at the university.
