Full Description
On January 29th, 2019, University Staff was notified that the international organization of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity has suspended the charter of the Gamma Chapter at William & Mary effective immediately. The reason given for the suspension is violations of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity standards. The action taken by the international organization means that the Gamma Chapter and its members can no longer operate in the name of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity or use any of the fraternity’s names or derivatives (Pike, PiKA, PIKES, etc.), symbols or signage to denote the chapter is in any way affiliated with Pi Kappa Alpha. While the action to suspend the Gamma Chapter’s charter is the decision of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, William & Mary supports the decision of the international fraternity to hold its members accountable to their standards. So in light of that action, and in accordance with Fraternity & Sorority Life policy, the Gamma Chapter president has been notified that the Office of Student Leadership Development is withdrawing the chapter’s status as a recognized student organization. the chapter is no longer a member of the Interfraternity Council and its members may no longer attend any Fraternity & Sorority Life events. The international Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity has indicated their desire to reestablish a chapter at William & Mary campus no earlier than fall semester 2022.
