Chapter Overview & History
The Mu Upsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was chartered on February 7, 1976, at William & Mary, becoming the university’s first historically Black sorority chapter. Mu Upsilon emerged as a vital space for sisterhood, scholarship, and service nearly a decade after the first Black women were admitted as undergraduates. The chapter has played a pivotal role in advocating for social justice, supporting the Black student community, and uplifting the values of Delta Sigma Theta.
Today, the Mu Upsilon Chapter has been proudly reactivated and is ecstatic and deeply committed to bringing these powerful initiatives back to campus. With a strong sense of purpose, the chapter is dedicated to cultivating leadership and making a lasting impact while continuing to uplift and inspire the next generation of women at William & Mary.

Gaining 15 incredible line sisters, each driven to serve our communities and uplift one another, has been the most meaningful part of my journey thus far. What began as a childhood dream has now become my reality, and I am truly honored to stand among some of the most potent and purpose-driven women in the world.” – Aamya Cheeseboro, ‘26
